User Management

Buildnote authentication system provides secure access to your CI/CD pipeline monitoring tools. This documentation explains the account creation process, login procedures, and user management capabilities.

Authentication

Buildnote offers four authentication methods to create and access your account, providing flexibility based on your organization’s preferences and existing workflows.

Authentication Options

Buildnote provides the following authentication methods:

  1. GitHub: Via OAuth integration
  2. GitLab: Via OAuth integration
  3. Google: Via OAuth integration
  4. Email / Password: Your preferred email address and a password

For GitHub, GitLab, or Google authentication, the process begins with selecting your preferred provider. You’ll be redirected to authorize the Buildnote application through a secure OAuth connection. Once approved, Buildnote creates your account and sends a confirmation email to your registered address.

Email and password registration requires entering your email address and creating a secure password. After submission, Buildnote sends a verification link to your email. Clicking this link completes the verification process, creates your account, and triggers a confirmation email.

Logging In

Returning users can access Buildnote using the same authentication method chosen during registration.

GitHub, GitLab, and Google users select their provider and complete authentication on the provider’s page before being redirected back to Buildnote. Email users simply enter their registered email and password to access the service.

Should you forget your password when using email authentication, Buildnote provides a straightforward recovery process. Request a password reset by entering your registered email, and you’ll receive a recovery link valid for 15 minutes. Clicking this link allows you to create a new password and regain access to your account.

User Management

Buildnote implements a team-based approach to user management with role-based permissions to ensure proper access control across your engineering organization.

Team Structure

New Buildnote users automatically become Admin of a newly created team with a system-generated name. This foundation allows immediate access to Buildnote features while providing the flexibility to invite additional team members.

The platform supports membership in multiple teams, allowing individuals to contribute to different projects or departments with appropriate access levels for each context. This capability particularly benefits organizations with cross-functional teams or matrix management structures.

It is important to note that each team in Buildnote is billed separately. This billing structure provides financial isolation between different projects or departments, allowing for precise cost allocation and independent scaling based on each team’s specific usage patterns and requirements.

Roles and Permissions

Buildnote offers two distinct roles that determine what actions members can perform within a team:

Users with the standard User role can view builds and events for their team, access basic integration information, and configure personal notifications. This role provides the necessary visibility without administrative capabilities.

The Admin role includes all User permissions plus expanded capabilities for team management. Admins can invite and remove team members, manage billing information including plan upgrades and payment methods, install and configure integrations, regenerate API keys, rename the team, and if necessary, delete the team entirely.

Team Administration

Effective team management forms a crucial component of Buildnote’s functionality. As an Admin, you can control team membership by inviting colleagues via email and removing members when necessary. You maintain oversight of team settings, including integration configurations that connect Buildnote to your development workflows.

The Buildnote service provides a seamless experience for teams of all sizes, from small development groups to enterprise organizations with complex requirements. The platform’s user management capabilities scale accordingly, maintaining security and appropriate access control throughout your organization.

For organizations requiring custom identity integration or on-premises deployment, Buildnote offers Enterprise plans that provide exceptional value and closer alignment with your specific organizational needs.
